The Reality of Death

Most people don't want to face death. The Bible says all must die (Heb. 9:27). For the Christian, death has a four-fold meaning:

  1. Prepared death: Prepared to meet God and be in heaven.
  2. Peaceful death: We have no fear of the future.
  3. Profitable death: We will be with God forever.
  4. Precious death: God welcomes His children home.
  1. The paradox of death
    1. Death brings sorrow, yet we know our loved one is with God.
    2. Death creates loneliness, but God comforts, filling the empty place with His presence.
    3. Death creates misunderstanding, yet we know that God does everything well.
    4. Death creates pain, but God heals the broken heart.
    5. Death cannot destroy memory. Cherish those good memories. Keep them alive.
  2. The promise in death
    1. The house (2 Cor. 5:1). The body is just the house in which the soul lived.
    2. The help (Ps. 23:4). No fear because Christ is in us.
    3. The hope (1 John 3:2). See Christ and be like Him.
    4. The happiness (John 14:13). The promise of heaven.
  3. The pleasure in death
    1. Conversion (2 Cor. 5:8). The soul being absent from the Lord, means being present with God.
    2. Comfort (Rev. 21:4). The "no more's" of heaven:
      1. No more tears
      2. No more death
      3. No more sorrow
      4. No more pain
      5. No more darkness
  4. The provision in death
    1. Promise (Deut. 33:27). Under us are His everlasting arms to help and comfort.
    2. Power (John 11:25, 26). Though the body dies, the soul lives eternally.
    3. Peace (Matt. 5:4). Those who mourn will be comforted.
  5. The preparation in death
    1. Surety of death (Heb. 9:27). All must die! Salvation before death. Three steps, as simple as ABC:
      1. Admit you are a sinner (Rom. 3:23, Is. 53:6).
      2. Believe in Christ (Acts 16:31, Rom. 10:9, 10).
      3. Confess your sins (1 John 1:9, Ps. 103:3).

Conclusion:

Death comes suddenly (Prov. 27:1). It could be by accident or a heart attack. Because it comes so suddenly, we need to be ready at all times. Note: NOW is the day of salvation (2 Cor. 6:2). How do you prepare? It is simple: believe in the Lord (John 3:16). Prepare TODAY!
